"Life is hard when you don’t know who you are. It’s harder when you don’t know *what* you are. ...
I was lost for years. Searching while hiding. ...
I won’t hide anymore. I will live the life I choose."
-- Bo Dennis, "Lost Girl"
I have had the good fortune to see some of the places in this video up close and personal. While I've yet to travel the length of the thing from one end to the other (let alone there and back again), a few occasions have given me the opportunity to travel quite a lot of the old Historic Route 66. There is something about America that cannot be understood without making a part of this trek at least once in life. It is a still-living monument, a work of art in progress, a reflection of American Pop Culture and various more authentic cultural currents which have contributed thereto.
It is, in short, the American Road Writ Large: part fossil, part progress, part Road Work Ahead.
If you've never made this Journey, do yourself a favor and plan a summer road trip on Route 66 sometime.
